Bhakri

In ancient times, cooking abilities of a Maharashtrian girl was judged by this handmade dish!!.. Ingredients:

  • Jawar Flour – 2 cup
  • Salt to taste
  • Hot water  – 1/2 cup

Steps:

  1. Combine the jowar flour and salt in a bowl, mix well
  2. Add hot water and mix well.
  3. Once dough cools a bit, start to knead the dough and continue to knead for at least 5 to 7 minutes.
  4. Divide the dough into 6-7 equal portions.
  5. Dust dry jawar flour over rolling board and start to pat it to flatten it in to round bread or bhakri.[ refer video Handmade Bhakri Steps ]
  6. Heat up tawa, place bhakri on tawa immediately applying little water to the upper surface [the side on which we applied dry flour] and spread it all over with the help of your fingers.
  7. Cook the bhakri just till the time water starts to evaporate from the top side of bhakri.
  8. Then flip bhakri, and cook from other side for just 2 minutes on low flame [ refer video  Puffed Bhakti video ]
  9. Now roast the bhakri on direct flame
  10. Serve hot with Zhunka/Pitla & Buttermilk

Note: for best results gather all dough and press it using palms of your hand
